Part 1 of how I got into beagling.
I grew up in a small town in York County Pa by the name of Hellam Pa that was in a country setting my father always had a Basset Hound or a beagle that he used for hunting. When I was old was old enough, he would take me with him and that was my introduction of the hounds. When I was old enough to hunt by myself, I would come home from school grab a shotgun and a dog walk across the street to the fields and hunt pheasants and rabbits.
A friend of my father bought a beagle pup off a farmer near us by the name of Blessing later in life I would find out he was a Beagler. The pup turned out to be one of the best rabbit dogs I ever hunted with. Her name was Nellie she had an all-white face that was easy to see, but she was shot and killed by a hunter while chasing a rabbit that was not in our hunting party.
So, for several years I did go hunting as I joined the Marines and got married and started a family. My work took me to many places, and I ended up in Hermitage Pa. I heard of a Beagle Club in Sharpsville and went and watch some dogs and knew I wanted a beagle but at the time was living in an apartment and could not make it happen. I got a job offer in Hazleton Pa and moved there.
I saw an ad in the local newspaper for a beagle for sale that was started and running and I bought her name was T and L Molly, she was bought from Butch Erwin who went by the kennel name Ferrwood Beagles. Butch took me to Carbon Beagle Club where I became a member and would later become the President of that club. Molly was out of Del-Hart Ringwood and placed in several trials and that was when I got hooked. Molly was bred to Duck Creek Rambo who was owned by Danny Venn. I later sold her to Joe Brady, who ran her in two couple trials.
